It’s important that we take time out in our day to not only spend time with our families, but to ensure we are gaining the benefits of what our beautiful country has to offer.
In a study done by the National Health Survey, in 2014-2015, it was shown that 1 in 3 workers used at least one day of sick leave for mental health or stress. More frightening is that the overuse of technology especially amongst teens, was leading to growing levels of depression, inattention, sleep deprivation, and even suicide from excessive screen time. The more time a person of any age spends using their smartphone, the more likely they are to be depressed. Teens who spend 5 or more hours per day on their devices are 71% more likely to have one risk factor for suicide.
In today’s society, more and more Australian families are turning to camping to reap the many benefits of the great outdoors.
Outdoor activities, such as camping and caravanning, are proven to reduce stress by reducing depression and anxiety symptoms. A simple walk in natural settings, can improve short term memory by nearly 20%. Seasonal increase in sun time are associated with decreased emotional distress. A week of camping resets the body’s internal clock to sunrise and sunset – helping insomnia and sleep problems. Time spent outdoors, reduced inflammation, which is associated with a wide range of diseases such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, IBS etc.
Being outdoors, delivers true health benefits. It’s no wonder, people are turning to the great outdoors!
